Terms & Conditions
The rules governing your use of GEDminer.
Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using GEDminer, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to all the terms, you must not use the service.
These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the service.
Description of Service
GEDminer provides in-browser GEDCOM file analysis tools for genealogy research. The service is currently provided free of charge.
No guarantee of accuracy - Analysis results are derived automatically from the data you provide. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any analysis. You are responsible for verifying all findings.
Browser-based processing - Your GEDCOM file is parsed locally in your web browser. For browser-only use, GEDminer cannot browse, open, or inspect it.
We do not store your original file on our servers. If you use account or cloud save features, GEDminer may store parsed genealogical data associated with your account so that you can reload or manage saved trees later. This may include names, dates, places, relationships, notes, sources and other information extracted from your GEDCOM file.
User Accounts
When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You may delete your account or saved trees where this functionality is available. Deleting an account will permanently remove saved data associated with that account.
Age requirement - You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
Account security - You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.
Prohibited Use
You agree not to:
• Submit, process, or attempt to use files containing malware, viruses, or harmful code • Attempt to access, interfere with, or disrupt the service or its servers • Use the service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the service without permission • Analyse, save, or process GEDCOM files you do not have the right to use
Intellectual Property
Your data - You retain full ownership of any GEDCOM files you analyse and any genealogical data processed or saved through GEDminer. We claim no rights over your family tree information. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to analyse, save, or otherwise process genealogical data you provide, including information that may relate to living people.
Our content - The GEDminer name, logo, software code, and written content are the property of GEDminer. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without permission.
Open source - Where applicable, third-party libraries are used under their respective open-source licences.
Limitation of Liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GEDminer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the service.
This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, accuracy of genealogical analysis, or decisions made based on tool output. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits legal liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Termination & Changes
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these terms or is harmful to other users.
We may modify these terms at any time. We will post the updated terms on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
